What the flip actually does
A flip is two changes, not one. First every letter is swapped for a character that is drawn
upside down — a becomes ɐ, e becomes ǝ,
! becomes ¡. Then the whole line is reversed, because the last
letter of your sentence has to sit at the left edge for the text to read correctly once the
screen is turned around.
Type Fancy Text and you get ʇxǝ⊥ ʎɔuɐℲ. Notice that the capital F is now at the far right and the t is at the far left, and that the space between the words is still in the same place — a space is its own character and reverses onto itself.
Upside down or just backwards?
The two rows solve different problems, and picking the wrong one is the usual reason people give up on this tool.
- Upside Down — rotated glyphs in reverse order. Use it when the reader will physically turn the phone, or for the joke look in a bio or comment.
- Reversed — your own letters, simply reversed. Use it for puzzles, "read this in a mirror" posts and anyone who needs to decode the line. Every character stays inside the normal Latin alphabet, so it never shows a box.
Ready-made flips to copy
These were produced by the same map the tool uses, so they match the rows above exactly.

Where flipped text works, and where it breaks
Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord and X all store text as code points, so a flipped line pastes in unchanged. The failure is not the app, it is the font. A few letters in the flip map have no rotated twin in the usual Latin ranges, so they borrow one: capital B is drawn with a Deseret letter, a block most phones never ship, and that character can arrive as an empty box while the rest of the line is fine.
Two more things worth knowing before you paste it somewhere permanent:
- Search stops working. Instagram and TikTok match the letters people type, so a flipped display name will not be found by typing the plain word.
- Screen readers read it wrong. The line is announced character by character, and often not at all. Keep flipped text for fun labels, not for something a visitor has to understand.
Can I type like this without the tool?
Not from a normal keyboard — there is no key that produces ǝ or ɐ, and phone keyboards will autocorrect them away. The practical route is to type here, copy once, then keep the result in your notes app. Because the characters are stored in the text itself rather than as formatting, it will paste the same way next month and on someone else's phone.
